Description

Authentic Italian Lemon Sorbet, or Sorbetto al Limone, is a refreshing and tangy frozen dessert made with fresh lemons, sugar, and water. Perfect as a palate cleanser or a light summer treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons Limoncello (optional)
  • Mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Add Lemon Juice: Once the syrup is cool, add the fresh lemon juice and Limoncello (if using). Stir to combine.
  3. Freeze Mixture: Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and place it in the freezer. Stir the mixture every hour to break up ice crystals until fully frozen, about 4-5 hours.
  4. Blend for Smooth Texture: For a smoother texture, blend the frozen mixture in a food processor until smooth and creamy. Return to the freezer for another hour before serving.
  5. Serve: Scoop the sorbet into bowls or hollowed-out lemon halves. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve immediately.

Notes

For a sweeter sorbet, adjust the amount of sugar to taste.

Adding a small amount of Limoncello helps keep the sorbet smooth and prevents it from freezing too hard.
